Friday, 19 May 2023, 7:00 pm
Restaurant Nigrum, Baden-Baden

Dine and enjoy like an emperor – a culinary journey back in time to the turn of the century, the oldest winegrowers’ cooperative with links to the Hungarian-Austrian Danube monarchy supplies fantastic wines to go with it.

Anyone who has always wanted to know and experience how emperors and princes indulged in culinary delights at the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries should not miss this unique evening.

Chef Roland Ettl of Restaurant NIGRUM, one of the top addresses for discerning gourmets in Baden-Baden, has created an 8-course menu from historical recipes that will provide unique and incomparable pleasurable experiences.

The wines of the evening come from the Cantina Andrian in South Tyrol, which wrote South Tyrolean wine history in 1893 with the first alliance of winegrowers and is today one of the best addresses for fine wines from South Tyrol. The alliance with another top address in the region, the Cantina Terlan, is also groundbreaking, although the Cantina Andrian has retained its independence.

In the unique and atmospheric ambience of the NIGRUM restaurant with its outstanding cuisine, you can look forward to an eventful evening, which Alexandra Erlacher from the Cantina Andrian will accompany with all her professional competence.

The location

Restaurant Nigrum

“Nigrum“ is the Latin word for “black”. Black and gold are the colours that predominate in the restaurant’s interior, given the character of a cosy, vaulted cellar by the well-preserved, historic city wall. According to the proprietor, Florian Bajraj, the building is around 440 years old and was formerly part of the castle’s stables. Using various design elements, the restaurant has turned this down-to-earth location into an airy, tasteful and dignified environment. Worthy of special mention are the colourful, large-format paintings by Roland Schauls.
The service is excellent, modern and informal while also maintaining classical traditions. On the wine menu are wines from both regional and international wineries (e.g. from Martin Wassmer in Durchbach/Black Forest and Kellerei Andrian in Italy).
The bar has been shaped by contemporary thinking. Smaller dishes or selected items from the menu can be served here. And visitors attending the famous Festival Hall can also take the opportunity to enjoy a cocktail at the bar after the performance.
