Masterclass “Wines from the Granite”

Friday, 19 May 2023, 4:30-6:00 p.m.
Kongresshaus, Room: S4, 1st floor

The viticulture of the Black Forest fringe often takes place on the primary rock of the bedrock and its weathered soils: In the Ortenau, most grapevines grow on granite. Do the wines obtained from such soil reflect the compact, hard structure of the rock? Or do they rather translate the diversity of minerals present in the granite into particularly generous wines? Our masterclass attempts to trace the common thread of wines from granite and will feature selected Ortenau examples alongside wines from other granite origins, such as those from the Hessische Bergstrasse, from the cru village of Fleurie in the Beaujolais and from the Hermitage rock of the northern Rhône Valley.
With wines from: Griesel Sekt, Schloss Neuweier, Schloss Ortenberg, Axel Bauer, Château des Bachelards, Paul Jaboulet Ainé
