« Regum mensis Aris que Deorum » which means « For the Table of the Kings and the Altar of Gods » is the historical motto of Château d’Issan, 3rd Classified Growth in the 1855 Classification.
Located in the heart of the magical Margaux appellation, the wines have always been recognized in the world for their exceptional finesse and delicacy.
Thanks to its unique terroir mainly composed of gravels on the surface and clay in the deep subsoil, the wines are always highlighting delicate and subtill aromas.
The microclimate, regulated thanks to its proximity from the ocean and the Estuary, offers to the vineyard ideal conditions to grow vines.
The History of the estate dates back to the XIIth century, when the wine from the property was served for the wedding of Eleanor of Aquitaine with the future King of England, Henri Plantagenet, on May 18th of 1152.
The current castle was built in the XVIIth century with a singular wall to surround the single vineyard. The « Clos d’Issan » built in 1644 represents 35 hectares of vines out of 53 hectares in total. The grape varieties are composed of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Petit Verdot and Malbec.
Château d’Issan represent also a long family heritage and continued transmission. Today, the Cruse family who acquired the estate in 1945, are sharing this adventure since 2013 with the Lorenzetti family (owner of the Châteaux Pedesclaux in Pauillac, Château Lafon-Rochet and Lilian Ladouys in St-Estèphe).
