In Southern Styria, where the Illyrian climate and sandy shell limestone shape the vines, Domaine 1196 carries its name as a tribute to its roots: the first documented mention of this place in 1196 reflects a deep respect for its history. Here, where past and present blend harmoniously, Reinhard Muster crafts wines that unite tradition and modernity in an exceptional way – guided by experience, an understanding of the land, and genuine passion.

On nearly 100 hectares of vineyards, Reinhard Muster demonstrates a deep sensitivity to the interplay of soil, climate, and time. His wines are the result of gentle guidance – allowed to mature, evolve, and tell their story. They impress with their harmony, vibrant structure, and clear signature. The three main collections – Styria, Illyr, and 1196 – reflect the diversity and depth of the estate.

At the heart of the winery is the flagship site Ried Grubthal, whose full potential Reinhard Muster masterfully harnesses. His Sauvignon Blancs Ried Grubthal vintages 2013 and 2020 are world-class wines, characterized by freshness, minerality, and remarkable depth.

Domaine 1196, initiated by the Wolf family, stands for the successful fusion of traditional craftsmanship and innovative enjoyment. In addition to its award-winning white wines, the range is complemented by red wines from Albert Gesellmann in Burgenland, while the spirits brand MOTIF adds further variety. A new on-site restaurant, currently in development, will soon enrich the experience and complete the estate’s philosophy of enjoyment and culture.
