The Reichsrat von Buhl winery has been regarded as one of Germany's most prestigious wineries since it was founded in 1849. It has gained acclaim for its timeless terroir-driven wines, consistently reflecting the heritage of the grapes from the best vineyard sites in Deidesheim and Forst. The name von Buhl soon became synonymous with top quality: When the Suez Canal was opened in 1869, a von Buhl Riesling was served at the official opening ceremony – one of the most expensive wines in the world at the time. And the winery is committed to maintaining this legacy, with the team around managing director, Dennis Geller, and winemaker, Simone Frigerio, continuing to shape the winery's history with passion and dedication. The vineyards cover a total area of around 56 hectares, 45% of which are VDP-classified as Erste Lage® (Premier Cru) and Grosse Lage® (Grand Cru). And the best plots in these sites belong to Reichsrat von Buhl. Given its exceptional portfolio of the best sites in the Mittelhaardt region, the winery is committed to producing the best wines from each vineyard. As an ambassador of organic wine production, Reichsrat von Buhl only creates wines in harmony with nature. It combines over 170 years of wine-making experience with innovation in the areas of ecology and sustainability. Its goal is to instil the heritage of the grapes – in other words, the ‘terroir’, combining factors such as the soil, climate, plants, culture, tradition and manual work – in the wines and sparkling wines.
