Scheiblhofer winery

Lake Neusiedl
Andau, Austria

The Scheiblhofer winery is located in Andau in the district of Neusiedl am See and is one of the largest wineries in Burgenland, covering an area of 85 hectares. It was established by Johann Scheiblhofer, soon developing a reputation for its superior quality wines, especially its elegant red, “Big John”. In 2000, Johann’s son Erich took over the helm. Apart from its wines, the family business has made a name for itself in terms of its modern approach, innovation, sustainability and sociability. It therefore comes as no surprise that Scheiblhofer was the first winemaker in Austria to be certified as an Austrian leading company (“Leitbetriebe Austria”) in 2017. But that is not all: In May 2017, the winery was named the best family business in Burgenland by the daily Austrian newspaper “Die Presse” together with Bankhaus Spängler, BDO Austria and the Austrian Chamber of Notaries, and then “Winery of the Year” in the 2019 “Best of Burgenland” wine awards of the Burgenland Chamber of Agriculture. And then last year, the Falstaff magazine voted Erich Scheiblhofer as “Winemaker of the Year 2021”.

Scheiblhofer is also a pioneer in the field of sustainability and has been producing wine in an energy self-sufficient way for years now. It is able to do so thanks to its own photovoltaic system, the largest privately operated system in Burgenland. Of course, the winery’s success is no coincidence: It is only through the tireless efforts of all its employees and the amazing cohesion of the family that all this has been possible.
