The Hans Igler winery in Austria has been a family business for more than 50 years now. A successful blend of tradition and modernity, the winery is now run by the third generation of owners, Hans’s grandson Clemens Reisner and his wife Anna Reisner-Iorillo. They cultivate vineyards covering some 40 hectares in one of Austria’s sunniest areas – the wine-growing region of Mittelburgenland. The key factors combining to create the top-quality wines emerging from Weingut Hans Igler are terroir, climatic conditions, near-natural viticulture and gentle methods of cultivation. The winery strives to create new bouquets and flavours by calling on decades of experience and continually breaking new ground. Blaufränkisch grapes play a central role at the winery. The subcontinental Pannonian climate combines with the sandy loam and gravel soils to create an environment in which the vines prosper and the typical characteristics of the grape variety are reinforced. All the wines can be tasted at a separate part of the estate known as the Schaflerhof. A former manor farm of nearby Schloss Deutschkreutz, these lovingly restored buildings now house around 600 barrique barrels and the “Vulcano-Vinothek” wine shop. It’s a popular destination for outings and a superb location for weddings and all manner of events.
Starting from this year, the wine bottles have also been given a makeover. The redesign of the labels strives to create a link between the past, present and future of the winery, while maintaining the link to Anton Lehmden's iconic artworks. But one thing remains the same – the attention to detail and the quality of the wine is tangible with every single bottle.
