Herdade da Malhadinha Nova is a traditional, family-run estate at the heart of the Alentejo region of Portugal. Celebrated for its regional specialities, the Alentejo is located in southern Portugal, between the Tagus River and the Algarve, bordering Spain in the east and extending to the Atlantic Ocean in the west. An extensive, sparsely populated region, it covers roughly one third of mainland Portugal. Newly built in 2003, the winery and resort are an authentic jewel embedded in a stunning landscape, one of Portugal’s best-kept secrets. A place of freedom and endless horizons. The Soares family’s estate extends over 450 hectares, boasting vineyards, olive groves, pigs, herds of sheep and goats, a stud farm with Lusitano horses, a country house, and six villas with accommodation units that provide privacy, exclusivity and luxury surrounded by stunning scenery.

The Alentejo is one of the most renowned wine growing regions of Portugal. On its schist soils, Touriga Nacional, Aragonês, Alicante Bouschet, Tinta Miuda, Baga, Cabernet Sauvignon and Syrah are cultivated for red wines, and Arinto, Roupeiro, Antao Vaz, Alvarinho, Verdelho and Viognier for white wines. Under the guidance of prominent oenologists Nuno Gonzales and Luis Duarte, Malhadinha Nova produces top-class wines, brimming with character and individuality. The labels for the estate’s wine bottles are a genuine family project, designed by the youngest members of the Soares family. Every year, the children create new labels featuring fabled creatures and comical-looking animals.
