Allegrini was founded in Fumane in the heart of Valpolicella Classica, a land of ancient, noble traditions.
While historical records trace the Allegrini Family back to the 16th century, it has been producing wine for generations and is at the forefront of the development and promotion of the Valpolicella in support of the culture and identity of its own territory.
Starting in the 1960s, the Company underwent a profound transformation via Giovanni Allegrini. Recognized as one of the major architects of the rebirth of the Valpolicella, Giovanni perfected the art of winemaking by rigorously selecting the grapes and introducing some important innovations in viticulture and winemaking.
The Company’s legacy then passed into the hands of his children Walter, Marilisa and Franco, who have been able to take up, develop and communicate the great insights of their father with impassio- ned enthusiasm, making the name of Alle- grini and of the Valpolicella renowned around the world.
Poggio al Tesoro in Bolgheri was established in 2001. The result of the Family’s wish to expand outside the confines of its native Valpolicella and its love for a land of great qualitative potential, it now extends for some 70 hectares, 60 of which are planted with vineyards. In Bolgheri, an area of great international varietals, Allegrini produces wines that are modern and elegant in style and very quickly established themselves on the international wine scene.
San Polo is the group’s most recent acquisition. In 2007, Allegrini decided to invest in Montalcino, applying the dynamic and innovative spirit of the Family to one of the oldest denominations in Italy and creating a forward-looking company keenly attentive to environmental issues, as concretely demonstrated by its winery, designed according to the principles of cutting edge, green architecture. Perfectly situated on the southeast slope of Montalcino, the estate enjoys an ideal terroir for Sangiovese, which here expresses elegance and aromas of great finesse.
