Located in the southern part of the Médoc peninsula, the 96 hectares vineyard of Château Cantemerle has deep gravel soil. Today, it has the same vineyard parcels as when it was classified in 1855.
After belonging to the Villeneuve (1579 – 1892) and Dubos (1892 – 1980) families, the Château was acquired in 1981 by the French group SMABTP, a mutual insurance company in the construction and civil engineering sector. The estate’s long history is reflected in the chateau’s distinctive architecture of the buildings and the magnificent 28 hectares park that surrounds them.
Cantemerle’s soil is silica-gravel. Thanks to this particular terroir, an average age of the vineyard of 40 years and a high density of planting, Cantemerle produces delicate, balanced wines with a rare aromatic complexity.
