The history of winemaking at Château Giscours goes right back to the first vine plantings in 1552, with the first grape harvest taking place in 1571.
Covering a total of over 400 hectares at the heart of the Margaux appellation, the estate boasts more than 100 hectares of vineyards. Over the centuries, Giscours has gradually developed its beauty and charm without ever losing its inherent character.
Enlarged in the 19th century, the estate became known for its technical innovations and universally acclaimed wines. This reputation was reinforced in 1855 when it achieved the status of a Grand Cru Classé.
The estate has an exceptional terroir featuring three large hills on which the vineyards are situated, contributing to the elegance and complexity of the Giscours wines. The ideal conditions here enable the vines – the oldest going back to 1923 – to thrive and develop. The Garonne gravel, remarkable for size, is particularly well suited to growing Cabernet Sauvignon.
Three habitats converge at the heart of Giscours: the wild ecosystem of the Médoc natural park, a unique winegrowing region, and polycultural farming featuring sheep, cattle, vegetable gardens and beekeeping. Life at Giscours is constant and enduring.
