Louis M. Martini – A Napa Valley Pioneer
Louis M. Martini is one of California’s most historic wineries and a true pioneer of the Napa Valley. Founded in 1933, immediately after the repeal of Prohibition, it was one of the first five wineries to reopen in the region. Originally from Genoa, Louis M. Martini was ahead of his time in focusing on dry wines, varietal bottlings, and the cultivation of Cabernet Sauvignon—at a time when sweet wines and generic blends dominated the market.
A major milestone came in 1938 with the acquisition of Monte Rosso Vineyard in the Mayacamas Mountains. The iron-rich, red volcanic soils of this high-elevation site give the wines exceptional depth and structure. To this day, Monte Rosso remains the heart of many of the winery’s finest Cabernets.
Innovations such as temperature-controlled fermentation, the use of wind machines to combat frost, and the early adoption of single-varietal bottlings highlight the Martini family’s pioneering spirit. A culinary highlight is the exclusive wine and dining experience at Martini Park, where guests can enjoy fine wines and expertly paired dishes under the open sky.
The wines are considered benchmarks for California Cabernet and reflect the winery’s core philosophy: a seamless blend of tradition, innovation, and terroir.
Louis M. Martini represents nearly a century of uncompromising quality, forward-thinking craftsmanship, and deep roots in the Napa Valley—a must for connoisseurs and professionals alike.
