Two castles – one estate
Our wines are produced at Schloss Salem on Lake Constance and at Schloss Staufenberg in the Ortenau region. The property of the Margraves of Baden for generations now, both locations are much more than simply winemaking sites, they are the hubs from which Baden's wine culture radiates. Each of these castles is part of an ancient cultural landscape and has been a seminal feature of Baden’s winemaking tradition for centuries.

Proudly displaying the VDP.Eagle
We are members of the Verband Deutscher Prädikatsweingüter (VDP) – a German organisation which promotes the country's top wines and estates. Only around 200 estates belong to this select association. We are proud that the “VDP.Eagle” adorns our bottles, an indication of absolutely top-quality wines. The reason we are able to carry this symbol is our in-depth understanding of wine and the knowledge that reaching this very top level takes more than simply mastery of the art and an instinct for precisely the right moment – it also takes an awareness for nature and prudent use of the environment.

The first Margrave of Baden
Margrave Hermann II, a scion of the house of Zähringen, was the first to assume the title of “Margrave of Baden” in 1112, the name taken from the castle he erected above what is now the city of Baden-Baden. The name is now shared by our estate and the state of Baden – extending from the River Main to Lake Constance, and from the River Rhine to the depths of the Black Forest.

Fidelitas – fidelity and dependability
Respect for the long history of our family and our estate is extremely important for us. And this is reflected in our motto: Fidelitas – fidelity and dependability. But Fidelitas is not only the motto of our family, it also characterises the respect we have for our land, its resources, its culture and its individuality.
