von Winning winery

Palatinate
Deidesheim, Germany

Ever since its foundation in 1849 by Dr Deinhard, the von Winning winery has been using its historic cellar vaults to age quality wines from outstanding vineyard sites. In 1907, Leopold von Winning, the founder’s son-in-law, made it his goal to do justice to the winery's exceptional vineyards by creating great wines. As a founding member of the VDP, he incorporated his beliefs and ideas into the very ethos of this renowned association of top German wineries.

The young and ambitious team around Stephan Attmann cherish the traditions introduced by this visionary. They work hard in the vineyards, adopting near-natural practices, and are rewarded with aromatic and healthy grapes. These valuable harvests are then vinified in the historic cellar, requiring great patience and no additional treatment. The cloudy musts are fermented in the warmth of oak barrels, without any artificial cooling.

This preserves the precious phenolic compounds, which shape the aroma and give the wines their complex structure. They are then only moved once and bottled. This ensures that grapes from the best vineyard sites become exceptional wines, reflecting the unique character of von Winning wines.
