Ihringen am Kaiserstuhl may be a mere speck on the map for many people, but for wine lovers this is a village with a magnetic appeal. Situated at the southwestern tip of Germany, it’s the location of Weingut Dr. Heger, a VDP member estate and a name synonymous with great wines throughout Germany and abroad. Currently managed by Joachim Heger and his wife Silvia,
the estate's name is inextricably linked with the Ihringer Winklerberg, one of Germany's most renowned vineyards, and the Achkarrer Schlossberg. These extremely steep, warm and stony terroirs boast the perfect conditions for producing distinctive wines with a unique sense of place, particularly Pinot Noir, Pinot Gris, Pinot Blanc and Riesling. Fine Silvaner, Chardonnay and Muscat grapes are also grown. Each wine exhibits a recognisably fine minerality and subtle refinement.
We apply modern insights into ecology, plant cultivation, cover crops and organic fertilization methods to better exploit the distinctive terroir. Above all, use of these tools enables us to sustain and optimise the fragile ecosystem of the vineyard, the most precious resource for both us and the generations to come.
