Weingut Gmelin
Young, modern, and with a clear vision, the Gmelin couple has developed their estate in Angelbachtal into one of the Kraichgau region’s most remarkable wineries within just a decade. While the winery may not boast centuries of tradition or vast vineyards, it more than makes up for it with fresh ideas and a forward-looking spirit. The goal is clear: to create their own tradition that will shape the future.
Weingut Gmelin is not only young in terms of founding—winemaker Nico Gmelin established it just around ten years ago, fulfilling a long-held dream—but also in its architecture. The winery’s buildings, characterized by clean lines and a harmonious blend of wood and concrete, reflect the winery’s philosophy: clarity, character, and precision, also expressed in their wines.
At the heart of Gmelin’s winemaking philosophy is the vineyard work. Great importance is placed on gentle soil cultivation and hand harvesting. For their distinctly modern wine styles, Gmelin also makes selective use of barrique barrels to add depth and complexity.
Today, the Gmelin family cultivates nine hectares of vines in the Kraichgau region. The vineyards are rooted in soils rich in loess and keuper, offering an excellent foundation for expressive and elegant wines.
