Founded in 1803, this traditional winery is currently headed in the seventh generation by Maximilian von Kunow. Located close to a dead channel of the Saar in Konz-Oberemmel, the origins of viticulture here can be traced back to Celtic times.
The von Hövel estate has a total of 21.5 hectares of steep-slope vineyards under cultivation. Among the most important sites are the world-famous Scharzhofberg, the Oberemmeler Hütte, solely owned by this winery, and the outstanding Hörecker enclave, a monopoly location within the Kanzemer Altenberg vineyard.
The vineyards are cultivated according to the strict ecological standards laid down by “Fair ‘N Green”, an association that awards its seal of approval for sustainable viticulture and winery management. Avoidance of herbicides, inorganic fertilisers and pesticides is a matter of course, and reflects the personal philosophy of the winery owner.
Below the old abbey building, in the old monastery cellar dating back to the 12th century, the wines are made by hand and ferment spontaneously. Gentle treatment of the healthy and valuable grape harvest ensures top-quality wines that enjoy high longevity.
These natural wines, boasting the minerality of the Devonian slate and typical acidity of the Riesling, transport the authentic character of the vineyard into the glass. Elegant, delicate, with a moderate alcohol content – ingredients for carefree drinking pleasure.
