Sauska is one of the most modern and innovative wineries anywhere in Hungary and is very well respected.

It was founded by Krisztián Sauska, a Hungarian emigrant living in California, who discovered his love of wine in Bordeaux. The Sauska Winery has two estates – one in Villány, the red wine region, and one in Tokaj, which is primarily known for white, dessert and now also sparkling wines.

In Villány, winemakers grow the grape varieties Cabernet Franc, Merlot and Kékfrankos (Blaufränkisch) and create fruity, distinctive and sophisticated French-style wines. The modern building is also home to the restaurant Sauska 48.

For wine enthusiasts and connoisseurs, the new winery in Tokaj is a stunning sight. From a bird’s eye perspective, the brand-new building resembles two giant lenses looking up at the sky, each measuring 36 metres in diameter. The construction sits on a gentle hillside amid endless rows of vines, primarily white wine varieties such as Furmint, Hárslevelű, muscat and Chardonnay. The volcanic tuff underlying much of the vineyard lends the wines a rich minerality.

This architectural masterpiece is due to open in spring 2023. Along with the wine cellar, it will house a showroom, sparkling bar, wine shop and restaurant.
