For over six centuries, the Mazzei family has been dedicated to winemaking – with a passion and commitment passed down from generation to generation.
The family’s main estate, Castello di Fonterutoli, has been their home since 1435, located in the southern part of the Chianti Classico region. Today, the state-of-the-art winery, designed by Agnese Mazzei, serves as a true flagship. It allows for the meticulous care and selection in the vineyards to be elevated through the separate vinification and aging of each individual plot, resulting in wines of exceptional aromatic richness and complexity. All major tasks – pruning, tying, leaf removal, thinning, and harvesting – are carried out manually, at different times and in different ways for each plot.
In 1997, the family acquired the Belguardo estate in the hills of the Tuscan Maremma. Its unique terroir and proximity to the Tyrrhenian Sea endow the wines made from both native and international grape varieties with remarkable character. In 2004, the Zisola estate, located in southeastern Sicily, was added to the family’s two original properties.
