Château Beychevelle

Château Beychevelle is one of the most traditional and historic wine estates in the Médoc.
Its origins date back to 1565, when the château was built in Saint-Julien. One of the most defining eras was under Jean-Louis Nogaret de La Valette, Admiral of France, who gave the estate its name: “Beychevelle” derives from the order baisse voile (“lower the sails”) – a tribute to his high rank. The iconic label featuring a sailing ship still commemorates this period. In 1855, the château was classified as a 4ème Grand Cru Classé.

Over the years, Château Beychevelle has continued to evolve. Significant investments in cellar technology, a thoughtful aging process, and sustainable vineyard practices have made it one of the most sought-after producers in the Saint-Julien appellation today.
The estate covers 90 hectares of vineyards on gravelly and sandy soils near the river, providing ideal conditions for vine growth.

The estate’s philosophy is based on precision, respect for the terroir, and a refined sense of harmony. Selective harvesting, careful vinification, and responsible resource management are core principles of their work. The result is wines of depth and elegance, marked by clarity, freshness, and expressive character – true ambassadors of one of the Médoc’s most beautiful terroirs.
