Château Bastor Lamontage

Bordeaux
Preignac, France

Formerly owned by the French king, Château Bastor-Lamontagne was first documented in 1453, under the name Domaine de Bastore. From the 18th through to the 19th century, the property was owned by two families. In 2018, it was sold to Joseph Helfrich.
The estate is situated in Preignac, south of Bordeaux, in one of the five communes making up the Sauternes appellation. It covers 46 hectares of contiguous land, and the vines thrive on the excellent sandy and gravelly terroir. Grape varieties are typical for this appellation: Sémillon and Sauvignon, including some Sauvignon Gris. Since 2016, the estate is certified for eco-friendly farming practices, guaranteeing outstanding quality and contributing to natural biodiversity. There are only three estates in the entire appellation that boast this organic seal of approval. The wines are often described as "modern Sauternes", promoting freshness and harmony. With a lower concentration than some of its peers, this “relaxed Sauterne” has retained its attractive crispness.
