Greywacke – The Best of Marlborough
Founded in 2009 by Kevin and Kimberley Judd, Greywacke represents exclusive wines from Marlborough’s Omaka Valley. Despite its worldwide success, the winery remains true to its philosophy: “Simple and authentic.” A small, dedicated team runs the business from the Southern Valleys, while Kevin’s stunning vineyard photography adorns the distinctive labels.
Our Wines
Greywacke is renowned for its distinctive Sauvignon Blancs and elegant Pinot Noirs, complemented by limited editions of Chardonnay, Riesling, and Pinot Gris. The grapes come from sustainably managed vineyards, perfectly utilizing Marlborough’s sunny climate. Careful canopy management and controlled yields ensure intense flavors and balanced acidity in every bottle.
Philosophy and Origin
Minimal intervention, maximum expression: Greywacke’s wines reflect the unique terroir, supported by spontaneous fermentation, malolactic aging, and barrel maturation. The name “Greywacke” pays tribute to the signature river stones found in Marlborough’s soils, which give the wines their distinct character.
A Unique Location
Marlborough’s vineyards benefit from an ideal climate: high sunshine hours, mild temperatures, and significant diurnal temperature variation create wines with intense fruit and vibrant acidity. The well-drained, alluvial soils of the river plains provide optimal growing conditions, protected by the surrounding mountain ranges.
