After the foundation of his negociant business, Jean-Baptiste Audy was tempted to settle in the great Pomerol terroirs. In 1924, he bought magnificent plots close to the church, in the heart of the plateau and its blue clays. He turned them into the Clos du Clocher. The rest is self-denial and slow learning of nature’s work, generation after generation.
Clos du Clocher it’s a wine with an assertive classical style, without superfluous ornament, deep and sincere. A creed that always endures: the terroir of the plateau alone is enough to express its originality and strength of character.
The blue clay, so distinctive of our soils, allows, thanks to its exceptional elasticity, a perfect regulation of the water supply and an excellent synthesis of grape polyphenols. It is the cradle of wines combining power and finesse. The surface gravels, fluviatile deposits, combine natural drainage and regulation of mineral feeding. Then, the vines balance themselves in a natural way; a perfect guarantee of very high-quality berries. The Merlot with its intense fruit occupies a special place, but our old Cabernet Francs have long given an exceptional character to the final blend. Accounting for 30% of it, they bring complexity, freshness and subtlety.
