Born in 1975, Mastrojanni is located in the area of Castelnuovo dell’Abate, at the extreme south-eastern edge of the territory of Montalcino. Here the real protagonist is the Sangiovese (which in Montalcino is called Brunello), a vine unique in strength and sensitivity. In Mastrojanni, to highlight these characteristics to the maximum, quality has always been preferred over quantity, planting vineyards with a density that varies from 3,600 vines per hectare of the Schiena d’Asino vineyard to 5,300 of the new plants. The grape yields do not exceed the 5 tons per hectare, the fermentation is in cement tanks, keeping the temperatures below 30° centigrade. Malolactic fermentation is also carried out in concrete tanks. The subsequent and long (36 months) aging then always takes place in large Slavonian and French oak barrels, of different capacities. In 2022 Mastrojanni came to commercialize around 160,000 bottles of his production, which includes the three Brunellos and Rosso di Montalcino. Also in 2022 the harvest production was equal to a quantity of 180 thousand bottles, obtained within its 40 hectares of vineyards
Our wines are produced with grapes from our vineyards surrounding the cellar. The grapes undergo a continuous selection throughout the ripening process. Low yields in the vineyard, sustainable agronomic techniques and operations carried out by hand (pruning, thinning, weeding and harvesting) allow us to obtain grapes of high quality. The clayey-stony and calcareous soils and the mitigating action of Mount Amiata make our vineyards particularly suited to express at its best all the potential of Sangiovese.
We study a specific green manure for each soil, we use pelleted humus in the vineyard and natural products for the prevention of vine diseases, keeping in mind the respect for the plant and for people are some of the attention we reserve for sustainability.
