PERÚ PURO (www.perupuro.de) cuts out the middlemen to ensure fair treatment of the growers. It directly imports organically-grown fine cocoa and highland coffee from the remote Urubamba valley in the mountain rain forest of Peru.

When making our CHUNCHO GOLD Grand Cru gourmet chocolate, we use only Chuncho cocoa beans, considered to be the original variety from which all others stem. This noblest of all cocoa beans is extremely rare, growing only in the sacred valley of the Incas, on the banks of the Urubamba river, not far from the legendary city of Machu Picchu.
Using Swiss chocolate-making expertise, the hand-picked Chuncho beans are turned into single-origin vintage chocolate. Our chocolate regularly wins awards at international competitions.

PERÚ PURO is a certified organic producer, but we are even more stringent than the EU biolabel: our cocoa and coffee is cultivated in natural agroforestry systems containing a large number of diverse shade trees species. The traditional shifting cultivation of the rainforest (through slash-and-burn) is completely avoided. Thanks to organic cultivation methods (e.g. mixed cropping, cover plants as green manure, and erosion inhibitors), the same areas can be planted on a long-term basis. Because the farmers use no ecologically-harmful artificial fertilisers or pesticides, there is no contamination of the soil and drinking water. To reward the exceptional efforts of these small farmers, we pay them more than double the Fair Trade price for organic produce.
