Querciabella was founded in 1974 by Giuseppe “Pepito” Castiglioni, a visionary entrepreneur known for his passion for fine wines, on the picturesque hillside of Ruffoli in Greve in Chianti. Drawing on his background as a successful international industrialist, Giuseppe envisioned creating a winery that harmonized excellence, innovation, and prestige. Today, it remains proudly family-owned and led by Giuseppe’s eldest daughter, Mita Castiglioni. Under Mita’s stewardship, Querciabella continues to pursue oenological greatness while championing sustainability and a legacy that will inspire future generations.
Over the years, Querciabella has expanded its holdings to include more than 90 hectares of organic vineyards across Chianti Classico — in Greve, Lamole, and Radda — and a coastal estate in Maremma. Its winemaking philosophy honours the unique qualities of each vineyard, skillfully blending them into wines of balance and harmony.
Querciabella’s portfolio exemplifies this dedication, showcasing Batàr, a luxurious blend of Chardonnay and Pinot Bianco; Camartina, one of the original Super Tuscan and an elegant expression of Cabernet Sauvignon and Sangiovese; Palafreno, an impressive single-varietal Merlot; and Turpino, a vibrant coastal red blend. Complementing these are the fresh and aromatic Mongrana wines, which offer a more approachable yet equally expressive taste of Querciabella’s commitment to quality. The crown jewel, however, remains Querciabella’s Chianti Classico DOCG wines, which masterfully showcase the purity and resilience of the Sangiovese grape while delivering an authentic expression of Tuscany’s rich and diverse terroir.
