Purchased by the Tipa Bertarelli family in 2016, San Giorgio is located in the prestigious growing area of Castelnuovo dell’Abate (Sant’Antimo), in Montalcino The vineyards lie at elevations ranging from 250 to 400 metres in rocky, clay-rich soils mixed with conglomerate and tuff extrusions.
At Tenuta San Giorgio, there is only Sangiovese – this is its land. However, it is a Sangiovese with a thousand faces, drawing character from the multicolored soils that nourish the 28 hectares of vineyards facing southeast.
The ancient Pliocene sediments, the untamed clay, the light, mineral tuff; the vivid red soils, the fine and fragile white clays, and the steep, proud gullies. All around, forest: 110 hectares of biodiversity, safeguarding the morphological testimony of millennia of change.
It is a complete scenery of colors, textures, character, and memory, whose essence is gathered and processed with respect and rigor. Everything at Tenuta San Giorgio contributes to the creation of vibrant wines full of nuances.
Powerful and expressive, fresh and elegant: the Sangiovese from Tenuta San Giorgio brings to life wines that can embody the eclectic personality of this land, nourished by the morphological variety of its soils and the fortunate microclimate.
Vinifying here is both an interpretation and a tribute. The organic production, low yields, and manual selection of grapes ensure healthy and intact fruit that arrives in the cellar at the peak of its vibrant natural expressiveness.
The approach is traditional; fermentation and aging take place in concrete tanks and large oak barrels, with long macerations that allow the wine to develop depth and identity. Each intervention is minimized so that the wine can tell, without mediation, the nuances of the territory.
