THE STATE WINERY FREIBURG

The State Winery Freiburg combines science, historic vineyard sites, ideal conditions, and decades of expertise to create a unique wine experience. As part of the State Viticulture Institute Freiburg, it operates under the Baden-Württemberg Ministry of Food, Rural Affairs, and Consumer Protection. With 37 hectares of vineyards—24 hectares at the Kaiserstuhl in Ihringen-Blankenhornsberg and 13 hectares in Freiburg and Ebringen—the winery sets benchmarks in quality and sustainability.

CLOSE TO SCIENCE: THE VITICULTURE INSTITUTE

As a model winery for the Viticulture Institute, the State Winery bridges research and practice. Scientists work here to continuously improve wine quality, economic efficiency, and sustainability. At the same time, the winery is one of the largest training centers for winemakers and wine technologists. Up to 15 trainees from Germany and abroad receive a thorough vocational education here. This makes the State Winery a vital link between research and the wine industry.

BLANKENHORNSBERGER DOKTORGARTEN

The Blankenhornsberger Doktorgarten vineyard is located on the southwestern tip of the Kaiserstuhl and stands out due to its unique microclimate and diverse soils. The steep slopes (30–50% gradient) face southeast, south, and southwest. While the western slope is rocky and rich in mineral fragments, the eastern slope consists of pure loess. This distinctive combination gives the wines their unmistakable character.
