Terrazas de los Andes’ journey began in the early 1990s, when adventurous French viticulturist Hervé Birnie-Scott ventured into the unexplored, high-altitude terraces of the Andes. Today, Terrazas de los Andes farms a breathtaking mosaic of 200+ individual high-altitude wine terraces growing 100% pure mountain fruit, irrigated precisely and sustainably with pristine glacier water.
The Terrazas winemaking philosophy starts in the vineyards with the firm belief that wine is grown, not made. Respect for nature is front and center, with organic and regenerative farming, biodiversity, wildlife corridors and careful conservation of the pure glacier water. “We are 100% self-sufficient, with estate-grown fruit for all the wines,” says Hervé with pride. All Terrazas vineyards are cultivated, harvested and vinified separately and specifically according to sub-parcel.
With Malbec in the spotlight, the wines are full-bodied but elegantly aromatic and bright. Recognizing the conservation of this fragile ecosystem as a sacred responsibility, all the team at Terrazas are committed to being Guardians of Mountain Life. At one with nature, they aim to unleash and protect the magic at the top of the world—embracing regenerative and organic viticulture, conserving precious glacier water, and supporting the local Andean community and their own employees.
The adventure continues: Always exploring, Terrazas believes that new wine frontiers are yet to be discovered. Onward and upward!
