The winery is located in Oberstockstall, 60 kilometres west of Vienna, in the winegrowing region of Wagram. On an area of around 25 hectares, we have been cultivating our vineyards according to biodynamic principles since 2006. In 2008, our winery was accepted into the Austrian winegrowers’ circle “Traditionsweingüter Österreich”. As far back as the early 1970s, Karl Fritsch senior opted to focus on producing top-quality wines, gaining a reputation as a red wine pioneer in the Wagram region. Karl Fritsch junior took over his parent’s business in 1999, and has applied his ideals and dynamism at the winery ever since. He has built up an excellent reputation for his innovative winemaking ideas and his commitment on behalf of the entire Wagram region. Situated in the peaceful village of Oberstockstall, our winery has developed over the course of many decades, and is now a green oasis with a Mediterranean flair. It’s a wonderful meeting place for young and old alike.

Since the transition to biodynamics in 2006, our philosophy has been at the forefront of our work to an even greater extent than before. This approach has enabled us to make the vintage, grape variety and soil discernible in all our wines. Using teas and preparations we make ourselves, we strive to influence the physiological maturity of the vines so that they pass through the various development phases of the year – the resting period, the growth period and particularly the natural ripening period. Working in accordance with the phases of the moon and providing a balanced supply of humus leads to a much longer shelf-life. The soil is enriched with fungi, bacteria and micro-organisms that create a living environment capable of bringing forth a living wine.
