The idea of producing natural wine ourselves suddenly felt more tangible than ever over a glass of wine at the Ochsen restaurant in Feldberg. In 2019, the foundation for AuTerroir was laid here. A bold move – despite three generations of winemaking experience. The “brown mountain of Auggen” was what the Auggener Liesten was once called, referring to the formerly common use of pesticides on steep slopes. This manually applied crop protection led to the absence of natural ground cover during the summer. These extremely challenging top sites were left without younger successors.

With innovation and courage, we converted the steep slopes to sustainable management using the latest rope-assisted crawler technology. This technique allows us to cultivate the land with labor-intensive organic crop protection, including natural seeding and greening, all without any fertilization. This brought AuTerroir to where we are today: our first wines have been produced.

Since the founding of the AuTerroir winery in 2020, much has happened. We are a family-run company with the highest ambitions – aiming not only to produce top-quality wines but also to sustainably bring out the best for nature and people from the given conditions.
