The Tesch family has a long tradition in winemaking.

In keeping with this tradition, all its members are involved in running the family’s winery. Josef (Pepi) Tesch laid down the foundation for the winery’s success as far back as the 1970s, pressing small quantities of Blaufränkisch red wine which were widely acclaimed. A visionary figure in the production of red wine, his insight and passion were decisive in building up the family business. In 1997, the winery returned to marketing bottled wine, sparking a remarkable renaissance for the Tesch label. Pepi Tesch has now handed over the reins of the winery to his son Josef (Joe) Tesch, who is revitalising the business without losing touch with its roots. Joe is committed to continuing the legacy of the winery and retaining the authenticity of its products. This results in wines of the highest quality that have a strong bond with their place of origin – a bond you can taste.

Uncompromising quality – from vine to bottle

The vineyards owned by the Tesch family stretch out for a total of around 26 hectares in the foothills of the Ödenburg Mountains. Typical regional grape varieties, including some vines up to 65 years old, thrive in the vineyards on the Hochberg, on the Weisser Weg and in other locations. Soil conditions vary between the individual locations, and each vineyard has its own microclimate and individual characteristics. The winery strives to emphasise these differences and distinctive qualities in its wines through development methods characteristic to the particular grape variety. With about 60%, Blaufränkisch is the main protagonist in the Tesch family vineyards. Near-natural cultivation, yield limitation for the best grapes and careful hand-picking are the basis for the winery’s first-class wines. State-of-the art technology is employed in the estate’s wine cellars to guarantee functionality, efficiency and cleanliness. Maceration takes place in temperature-controlled stainless-steel tanks and wooden vats, ensuring an optimum fermentation process. After pressing, the fermented red wines are aged in barriques. This is where the harmony and characteristics so distinctive to the red wines from Weingut Tesch are really brought to the fore.
