Ornelleia is one of the cult wines of Tuscany. From the 1986 vintage appeared for the first time a red wine from Ornellaia. Together with the neighboring estate Tenuta San Guido where the Sassiacia grows, the two wines made Bolgheri known around the world as an excellent wine region. Originally created as a classic Bordeaux blend with Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Cabernet Franc, the more recent vintages of Ornellaia always include a proportion of Petit Verdot, which gives the wine fruit and tension. Originally designated as Vino da Tavola and as IGT, like so many other great wines of Tuscany, Ornellaia now trades as Bolgheri Superiore DOC.

 

In a great vertical, the 2020, 2015, 2014, 2008, 2001 vintages of Ornellaia will be tasted. Especially the older vintages will impressively show that Bolgheri wines and especially Ornellaia can also age great. As a prelude to the red Ornellaia, there are two vintages, 2020 and 2015 of Ornellaia Bianco. This cuvée of predominantly Sauvignon Blanc and some small additions of other varieties, was first produced in 2014 and testifies that in Bolgheri quite impressive white wines are also created.
